Friday, November 7, 2008Record gun sales across the United States are not a result of misplaced paranoia, as the media would have it, but as a sensible response to Barack Obama’s virulent hostility to the second amendment, which is on the record and documented.
Many fear that Obama could move to disarm American gun owners, potentially utilizing the “civilian national security force” that is “just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the U.S. military he promised to create during the campaign. Obama’s intention to re-instate the expired Assault Weapons Ban is partly behind the nationwide rush to purchase firearms.
“Sales of handguns, rifles and ammunition have surged in the last week, according to gun store owners around the nation who describe a wave of buyers concerned that an Obama administration will curtail their right to bear arms,” reports the New York Times today.
Obama’s disdain for the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms is clear – though he later denied it, in 1996 during his run for the Illinois State Senate, Obama told non-profit organization Independent Voters of Illinois that he supported a ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns, a de facto national annulment of the second amendment.
Obama’s rhetoric that Americans have a right to bear arms is completely worthless, because he has consistently claimed that governments have the power to take that right away.
For example, in April 2008 Obama stated, “As a general principle, I believe that the Constitution confers an individual right to bear arms. But just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can’t constrain the exercise of that right.”

Anthony Lake – CFR, PNAC – Bill Clinton’s first national security adviser, who was criticized for the administration’s failure to confront the genocide in Rwanda in 1994 and now acknowledges the inaction as a major mistake.
Zbigniew Brzezinski – CFR, Trilateral Commission – Brzezinski is widely seen as the man who created Al Qaeda, and was involved in the Carter Administration plan to give arms, funding and training to the mujahideen in Afghanistan.
Richard Clarke – CFR – Former chief counter-terrorism adviser on the U.S. National Security Council under Bush. Notoriously turned against the Bush administration after 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq. Also advised Madeleine Albright during the Genocide in Rwanda.
Ivo Daalder – CFR, Brookings, PNAC – Co-authored a Washington Post op-ed with neocon Robert Kagan arguing that interventionism is a bipartisan affair that should be undertaken with the approval of our democratic allies.
Dennis Ross – CFR, Trilateral Commission, PNAC – Served as the director for policy planning in the State Department under President George H. W. Bush and special Middle East coordinator under President Bill Clinton. A noted supporter of the Iraq war, Ross is also a Foreign Affairs Analyst for the Fox News Channel.
Lawrence Korb - CFR, Brookings – Director of National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. Has criticized manor of the invasion of Iraq but has detailed plans to increase the manpower of the United States Army to fight the war on terror and to “spread liberal democratic values throughout the Middle East”.
Bruce Reidel – CFR, Brookings – Former CIA analyst who wishes to expand the war on terror to fight Al Qaeda across the globe. Considered to be the reason behind Barack Obama’s Hawkish views on Pakistan and his Pro India leanings on Kashmir.
U.S. review likely to say Afghanistan situation ‘dire’

CNN National Security AnalystWASHINGTON (CNN) — A classified review of U.S. policy in Afghanistan is likely to judge that the United States is losing ground there, according to a government official involved with preparing the review.
The review, under way since September 20 and led by Lt. Gen. Douglas E. Lute, the senior National Security Council official responsible for Afghanistan and Iraq, has yet to reach any definitive conclusions. But according to one of the participants in the review there was no disagreement among the 24 government agencies that participated that Afghanistan is in a “dire situation.”
The official involved in preparing the review said participants at a recent private meeting discussed developments in Afghanistan including:
• Violence is up 543 percent in the last five years,
• Drug cultivation is up 100 percent since 2003, and
• Afghan support for international forces in Afghanistan is down by 33 percent in the past few months.

Congressional investigators yesterday demanded that the nation’s nine largest banks prove they are not using an emergency infusion of $125 billion in taxpayer funds to lavish their executives with wealthy bonuses. “I question the appropriateness of depleting the capital that taxpayers just injected into the banks through the payment of billions of dollars in bonuses, especially after one of the financial industry’s worst years on record,” [Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform,] wrote in a letter to the banks. Lawmakers across the political spectrum want to ensure that the government’s bailout program results in increased lending, not bigger paydays for executives. But a new study suggests that financiers are still bullish about their bonuses. More than two-thirds of Wall Street professionals are expecting a bonus this year, and 36 percent are anticipating a larger bonus than last year, according to a survey by eFinancialCareers, a career networking company. “Some experts have suggested that a significant percentage of this compensation could come in year-end bonuses and that the size of the bonuses will be significantly enhanced as a result of the infusion of taxpayer funds,” Waxman said. In his letter to the banks, Waxman asked them to provide detailed data on compensation packages since 2006, as well as the projected salaries and bonuses for the rest of the year. The request was sent to Bank of America, Bank of New York Mellon, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan Chase, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, State Street, and Wells Fargo.

Armed guards keep watch over church services
By Emanuella Grinberg(CNN) — Lori Davis remembers a time when the doors were always open at her church — and not guarded.
“No one thought twice about their safety. I guess we took it for granted,” said Davis.
But things have changed. In an era when terrorism threats and deadly shootings at schools and churches have made headlines, religious leaders are rethinking their security strategies. Last Saturday, a minister was fatally shot and another man wounded outside of a church in Kentucky where the men went to attend a funeral.
Such violence has houses of worship evolving from the days of walkie-talkies and video surveillance to armed guards, who keep a watchful eye over worship services and church.
“We live in a sinful world and people do crazy and irrational things,” said Davis, a member of the Highview Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky.
Highview, like a number of other churches nationwide, has a volunteer security force consisting of at least one armed guard during any given worship service.

“I’m much more comfortable knowing they’re there if needed rather than just hoping for the best,” Davis said.
Highview also has a medical team on the grounds during weekend services, when thousands of people pass through its doors.
Every member of the security team, from ushers to medics and armed guards, receives some kind of training related to their post, be it conflict management or anti-terrorism tactics.
“We realized that, as the largest Baptist church in Kentucky, we’d be a little naïve to think something would never happen to us,” said Highview Pastor Randy Record, who is also a police officer. “We’re catching up in an era of terrorism and a church is no different…..” CNN

(CNN) — With record low approval ratings and intense criticism for his handling of the Iraq war, Hurricane Katrina and the economy, the word most used to label George W. Bush’s presidency will be “incompetent,” historians say.”Right now there is not a lot of good will among historians. Most see him as a combination of many negative factors,” said Julian Zelizer, a professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School.“He is seen as incompetent in terms of how he handled domestic and foreign policy. He is seen as pushing for an agenda to the right of the nation and doing so through executive power that ignored the popular will,” he added.
But like so many presidents before him, Bush’s reputation could change with time.
Harvard University political history scholar Barbara Kellerman said when President-elect Barack Obama takes over in January, people may view Bush in a new light.

Spitzer won’t be charged in prostitution scandal
NEW YORK (CNN) – Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer will not be charged in connection with the prostitution scandal that prompted his resignation, the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York said Thursday.”After a thorough investigation, this office has uncovered no evidence of misuse of public or campaign funds,” U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said in a statement.The attorney’s office also said it found no illicit activity related to Spitzer’s withdrawal of funds for, and his payments to, the Emperors Club VIP, which authorities have said was a prostitution ring.
“In light of the policy of the Department of Justice with respect to prostitution offenses and the longstanding practice of this office, as well as Mr. Spitzer’s acceptance of responsibility for his conduct, we have concluded that the public interest would not be further advanced by filing criminal charges in this matter,” Garcia said.
Spitzer resigned in March after it was revealed that he was among the Emperors Club’s patrons — “Client 9,” according to court papers detailing the service’s workings. Court documents detailed arrangements for a nearly two-and-a-half hour rendezvous between Client 9 and a high-class prostitute — identified as “Kristen” — at the Mayflower hotel in Washington in February. Urine or You’re OutLike a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don’t have to pass a urine test.
Shouldn’t one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their butt, doing drugs, while I work. . . . Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Al Jazeera has learnt that the three men sentenced to die for their role in the Bali bombings will be executed in the coming hours.The twin bomb attacks on the island in October 2002 killed 202 people, many of them foreign tourists.
Barring a last minute change by the authorities, the executions will be carried out early on Friday morning at a prison island off the coast of Java.
The executions are a highly sensitive issue in Indonesia, with supporters of the men vowing to carry out revenge attacks if they are put to death.
Indonesian police have stepped up security across the country amid fears that the execution could spark fresh bombings.
On the island of Bali, police bomb squads have conducted thorough searches around the site of the bomb memorial and elsewhere in Kuta, one of the island’s main tourist areas and scene of the attack.
White House Concerned Over al Qaeda Terror Attack During Transition Posted: 06 Nov 2008 12:55 PM PSTPresident Bush on Thursday said he is concerned that al Qaeda will try to test the incoming Obama administration with a terror attack on U.S. soil, and said he will meet with the president-elect Monday to talk about homeland defense and the economy.Terrorists, the president said, “would like nothing more than to exploit this period of change to harm the American people.”
White House press secretary Dana Perino stressed that the U.S. government has no specific intelligence of any imminent attacks.
“I don’t know anything specific, but we do know this a heightened period of concern,” Mrs. Perino said. “We know that al Qaeda and others try to test a new administration.”
“That is something that we’re very concerned about. We’ve seen that in other countries,” Mrs. Perino said, mentioning the example of a 2004 bombing in Madrid, Spain that killed 191 people.
That bombing, however, was committed just before national elections in an attempt to influence the outcome, by what authorities deemed to be terrorists trying to imitate al Qaeda.
But Mr. Bush, speaking to more than 1,000 executive branch employees from across the federal government on the South Lawn, said the terrorist threat is a main reason that “all of must ensure that the next president and his team can hit the ground running.”

Hermies are scavengers by nature and enjoy having a variety of foods to choose from. My hermies happen to love peanut butter, raisins, sweet potatoes, and bananas! Purple pinchers are also known for being the most “fashion conscious” of the land hermit species. These guys LOVE to change shells, sometimes spending hours “shell swapping.” Listening to these guys “chirp” is like nothing else I’ve ever heard. It’s not quite like a cricket, or a mouse, or really anything I can think of, but it is fascinating!
